Any thoughts on the upcoming Holyfield/Toney fight? I know it's not until Oct... but I think this is going to be real interesting.

James Toney is on a role, but I just don't see him beating Evander Holyfield. Big difference between the two. Size. Strength.

Holy -200/Toney -170

Right fav IMO. Toney will not be in shape if he doesn't have 2 cut weight. its all about the $$$$ here. Nothing more. Holy is next potential steppingstone since the Hopkins withdrawl. Trying to bill him as a RJJ type..........maybe, a rematch w/ RJJ, should fatty get the W.

I think an in shape Evander, who usually stays
in condition, even at 40 yrs. old, may be equal
to a chubby 34 yr. old Toney. If Toney thinks
he should put on weight because Holyfield is a heavyweight, look out. He will look like the
Pillsbury dough-boy for sure. Toney has been
known for his spotty training habits over the years. But he may surprise, and stay focused and stay in good trim, in which case, he may just do enough to win. I think conditioning is
the main factor here.

holy is basically a shot fighter IMO. Fights with alotta highs and lows. Usually looks good after a lackluster perf in younger years, so he is due..........Byrd beat his ass IMO. Also Toney went from 168 as world champ, to 190 world champ, now if he beats Evander, they will 'try' and build his win as the equivalent of RJJ's over Ruiz and IMO they should only b/c Ruiz punked out after the 1st 1:30. But I dont think Toney can carry 210 well, and his counterpunching won't impress against a much more aggressive and bigger Evander. But naturally I could be 100% wrong. I thought LL was gonna walk over Vitali. Caught a break there. BUT, teh Dec 6 rematch has LL -475.

I respect your honesty about the Lewis fight.
I too felt LL would win, but when I heard about his
weight, I bailed out on my wagers. With Toney,
the weight will be even more crucial. Evander
has seen maybe a few too many rounds. This fight
does not hold any real interest for me as we
seem to be entering an era of "sideshow" matchups and fights designed to line pockets with no real value to the sport. I feel this
particular fight is such a bullshit exhibition.
Toney-Jirov was a classic. Forrest -Mayorga has
drama and may be a blast. But an over the hill
40 yr. old vs a possible lard ass isn't top shelf materiel IMHO.

the publicity photo was an eye opener....holi looked MUCH bigger....and,maybe unfortunately, i already put a little on toney because ,imo, holi is shot....but,as odessa said, holi seems to fight in a sort of staccato fashion....looking pretty good one fight....and looking old and slow the next....probably has alot to do with who the opponent is at this point in his career....

the guy is in his early 40`s....has probably been through as many wars as any fighter in recent memory.....he`s gonna hit the wall big time and for good at some point.......a guy can`t get off......just sees the openings but can`t let the punches go....that`s happened to a certain extent already....

may not happen vs toney....that size difference in the publicity photo looks quite substantial....i`d like to see more pictures of them together...i hope the extreme disparity in the photo was due to angles or lighting or something...

but, toney is very clever....he`s very hard to hit without being a mover..not stiff and erect like rahmann....i see a sort of deliberate fight.....and i see him being able to hit holi....maybe not hurt him enough to stop him...but holi will be hit....

and holi will try and rough toney up......holi will probably use that third weapon(his head).......expect toney to take his usual position on the ropes....which toney does well...

i see the size as being a pretty big advantage...but,holi`s not used to fighting real clever guys.....he`s used to hitting and being hit.....i`m sure toney will look hard at the byrd fight....he can learn alot from that bout....

toney`s real problem, beside the size, will be his conditioning.....he can`t come in to heavy.....he`s notorious for not being a diligent trainer....

but,he`s hungry after the jirov win....he`s back in the limelight after kind of being forgotten for awhile...and i think he`s really reveling in the notoriety...

what stumps me is why holifield is taking this fight.....what does he have to gain....he wins,he beat a blown-up middleweight,lightheavyweight......i don`t see a boring win over toney doing much for his career....as for toney,a win over holi probably opens the door to some sort of lucrative bout vs another bigtime heavyweight....or maybe rjj.......

he always has the potential hopkins bout to fall back on.....

don`t understand holi`s motivation....if i was holi,i might take a fight with a mesi....26-0 w/24 k.o.`s and starting to become a media darling....and overrated(imo)......hasn`t beaten a warm body yet....

but,that`s just one man`s opinion....

sphin- I was hesitant making Holy -200, but when I saw the same picture as you I was like damn. An ok big man will beat the decent little man. Esp if that little man can't stay away from the fridge. I am a Toney fan, or at least was after his win Prince Charles Williams fight until his he was embarrassment against RJJ. I never liked Holyfield. I bet against that bloated up cruiser since he turned the corner in the heavy div.

Holy would stop Mesi dead in his tracks. I wish someone would. Mesi's camp is probably waiting till Holy barely has a pulse to take a match like that. Like I say,

MESI
MCNEELY
MELITO

Are they/could they all be the same guy? LOL.

You guys have to remember that Holyfield looked bad against CHRIS "paw you like a girl" Bryd. Come on guys, don't cut down Commander Evander for that. Everyone looks bad against that faget Bryd unless your 6'6 245 lbs.

I still think Evander is the same boxer who beat up Hasim Rahman. Toney will be bigger, slower, gasping for air. Holyfield will show some respect and won't try to knock him out right away... I know for a fact Holyfield WINS a decision. Unless the fight is stopped on cuts.

Yeah, Joey...

Read the James Toney review in www.boxingtalk.net... This will be the biggest fight of James Toney's career. His moment in the spotlight. He won't let himself lose. He's gonna win.

Loosen up those lines... you cool dude you.

Why would holi take this fight? Would a few mail
sacks of hundred dollar bills be one possible reason? Money shapes the matchups;the networks
control the PPV and air the fights, hence controlling the money and the fights. HBO is the
REAL DEAL match-maker. This fight, I say again
is a liscense to print money and nothing more.
Don't believe the hype. Payday city, that's all.

..i was just taking holi at his word when he said that he was only sticking around to win the title one more time....i don`t think a win over toney will help him accomplish that goal....unless he`s after the cruiserweight title...

Holyfield will knock him right out. Byrd ran like a girl, judges and ruiz cheated.

Toney won't get knocked out, if he losses it will be by decision. Toney's chin is GRANITE!! If your picks in boxing are as bad as your tennis picks, this looks like a good fade

I think I might really like Toney in this fight. I am also seeing Holyfield as a possibly shot fighter after the Byrd fight. As a 2-1 underdog Toney is definitely worth a value play in my opinion. But I wouldnt lay my bet until right before the fight. I would have to take a close look at both fighters conditioning and weight difference.

One thing to remember; heavyweights DO NOT have
to make weight! This prospect scares me in a big
way if I think I want to bet on toney. He was
quoted as saying he may come in at 210-230
muscled pounds. I ain't betting this one until
one week before the fight, or maybe the nite of the weigh-in. If James looks like the Michelin
man, look out!

I totally agree, Frank... watch the odds shift seconds after the weigh-in.
